Nowadays only lazy ones do not analyze trends as a main tendency, direction of the way of majority. Through the prism of trends everything is under investigation. Well, almost everything. In the modern information space we can talk about the widest range of semantic concepts beginning with trendy Christmas decorations and up to global trends, analysts of scientific and technological development.
In this sense Education is not an exception. Fund New Media Consortium and the Association for the development of information technology education Educause presented a global report on which trends would form the educational system in the next five years. Experts have identified six major trends that are related to the impact of information technologies on the way we learn.
Firstly, changes in the innovation culture in the form of the adoption of new technologies, thus changing the methods and forms of education. To speak more widely, it is a large-scale transformation of education as a reaction on the change of values of the external world in order to remain relevant.
The expansion of cooperation between the organizations is considered to be the second trend in educational technologies. The number of contacts and relationships between the different educational structures is constantly growing. The reason is in the mutual benefits from such cooperation when educational institutions get involved into an active dialogue with the producers of educational technologies and negotiate about favorable terms. That affects the final product. Cooperation contributes to the rapid exchange of professional experience that is interesting for all the parties.
Thirdly, researchers have noted the changing of the learning assessment role. Technology allows to conduct statistics progress, to find out which educational forms and methods work better, to keep individual statistics achievements. As a result, the focus may shift from the final assessments to intermediate results which are important for building a learning strategy.
Fourthly, the broadening of open educational resources, where you can find almost all the necessary materials, becomes a real trend now. In addition, it is absolutely free despite the constant increase in the cost of educational services.
Fifthly, prevalence of blended learning is getting more serious as it has got a capacity to combine all the best: the free distribution of time with unlimited access to knowledge, the active use of innovative technologies with traditional personal “mentoring”.
And the last but not least trend concerns the redevelopment of learning spaces. Innovations simply intrude into the classrooms, in the auditorium, hallways and libraries, teachers are moved into the center of the space, while students are placed in a circle, requiring constant adjustment under the new format of educational work. Students must be willing and able to work seamlessly with electronic devices, and interact actively with each other.
