THE NIGHT OF SCIENCE: FROM GERMANY TO UKRAINE

In Berlin the greatНочь науки лучшееevent has been held for already 15 years. It is called “the long night of science”. This is one fabulous night in a year when universities and institutes give every willing person an opportunity to plunge into the world of inventions and scientific experiments. The project combines efforts of more than 70 educational institutions to show, introduce, explain and simply surprise several tens of thousands of visitors with a fascinating program of cognitive activities.

For the international promotion of the city’s image to promote and developing research centers and research institutions the event was decided to be held in Kharkiv. The organization of a momentous event was entrusted to the Department of International Cooperation of the Kharkiv City Council.

Implementation of the project “Night of Science in Kharkiv” was initiated by the city in cooperation with the twin city of Nuremberg (Germany), as well as with the support of the German Organization for International Cooperation Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and unlike the German counterpart is free to the public.

The project debuted in Kharkiv,  on September 28, 2013, at 5 p.m. sharp when the Kharkiv academic institutions opened their doors to everybody willing to plunge into the fascinating world of scientific research. In the process of its implementation the latest research projects in the field of modern technology of various areas of science were presented. In the even lots of universities participated including Karazin University, KNURE, Highway University, Institute for Single Crystals, Kharkiv Polytechnic Insitute, Kharkiv Airspace University and many others. Participants demonstrated their scientific and entertaining programmes and experiments.

This year event will take place on September 26 from 4 p.m. till 10 p.m., as stated in the disposal of the mayor. The list of the planned project participants for this year has expanded and covered 17 scientific, educational and other institutions. In addition to the higher education institutions the project involves the German Consulate General in Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv Planetarium in the name of Yuri Gagarin, cultural and educational center “House of Nuremberg.”
